Unintentional weight loss can represent a serious problem. The amount of weight loss is important. When people lose more than 10% of their weight without changing their diet or exercise habits, a medical condition may be involved.
Unintended weight loss can be a result of an illness affecting the digestive system, the thyroid hormone, an infection, the muscles, or changes in the thinking or the mood. A visit to the doctor and many kinds of tests are helpful for determining the cause of unintended weight loss.
