What is scabies?

Scabies is a parasitic infection of the skin. It is a condition similar to lice.

This condition is a very itchy skin condition, varying from no skin findings to a crusted rash. The scabies mites can be transferred from skin to skin, or from bedding or clothing to skin. In adults, itching of the nipples or the genital area is suspicious for this condition. Scabies is suspected in families when several people develop an itchy rash as the same time.

Scabies is treated with a medicine called permethrin cream.
